This campaign is focused on preventing foot entrapment accidents on escalators in our managed stations. The materials follow a clear, three step guide to staying safe on escalators: hold tight, stand away from the sides, take a big step off.

Escalator entrapment incidents continue to occur across the rail network, particularly at busy stations with high passenger footfall. While a range of items can become trapped in escalators, including clothing and personal belongings, foot and shoe entrapments remain a key area of concern due to the potential for serious and, in some cases, life-changing injuries.

The data we have is based on reported incidents only and highlights the importance of raising awareness of escalator safety and encouraging passengers to take simple precautions when travelling through stations.

These campaigns are no longer live or being promoted to public and passengers. However, if you would like to use these resources please ask permission from Network Rail’s marketing team: marketing@networkrail.co.uk
